<p>AMD <a href="https://community.amd.com/t5/corporate/announcing-new-model-numbers-for-2023-mobile-processors/ba-p/543985">announced their model naming scheme</a> for their Ryzen processors today complete with a helpful chart below for consumers to figure out exactly what it is they&#8217;re getting:</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img style="max-width:500px;height:auto;" data-recalc-dims="1" fetchpriority="high" decoding="async" width="500" src="https://i0.wp.com/blog.lon.tv/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/amd-processors.png?resize=660%2C286&#038;ssl=1" alt="" class="wp-image-1117" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/blog.lon.tv/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/amd-processors.png?resize=1024%2C444&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https://i0.wp.com/blog.lon.tv/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/amd-processors.png?resize=400%2C173&amp;ssl=1 400w, https://i0.wp.com/blog.lon.tv/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/amd-processors.png?resize=768%2C333&amp;ssl=1 768w, https://i0.wp.com/blog.lon.tv/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/amd-processors.png?resize=1536%2C666&amp;ssl=1 1536w, https://i0.wp.com/blog.lon.tv/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/amd-processors.png?w=2014&amp;ssl=1 2014w, https://i0.wp.com/blog.lon.tv/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/amd-processors.png?w=1320&amp;ssl=1 1320w" sizes="(max-width: 660px) 100vw, 660px" /></figure>

<p>The first number will be the model year, followed by the market segment. The most important number I think will be the third one which refers to the processor&#8217;s architecture. As we saw with the 5000 series Ryzen chips, some were running with the older &#8220;Zen 2&#8221; architecture while others had the newer &#8220;Zen 3.&#8221;</p>

<p>This chart should help make sense of what exactly is in the processor driving your PC in the years ahead. </p>
